Do you know a military veteran that may be in need of home repair/improvement assistance?

Do you know a military veteran that may be in need of home repair/improvement assistance?

Habitat for Humanity has a special program to help those who served, but we need your help to connect with eligible veterans!

Habitat for Humanity's Repair Corps was developed in partnership with The Home Depot Foundation to assist veterans in need of home repairs. Repair Corps has been designed to help veterans thrive by creating healthier, safer home environments through critical repairs and improvements. The program will assist with fixes identified in Habitat's Critical Home Repair guidelines that may vary from roofing, electrical, caulking and weather stripping to installing wheelchair ramps and remodeling bathrooms to be easily used by veterans with disabilities.

In keeping with the Habitat for Humanity philosophy of a hand-up, not a hand-out, some level of repayment from the homeowner is required. Repayment is dependent on the homeowner's ability to partner and repay.

Program Details

The home must be owned by the residents of the home, even though the veteran does not have to be the homeowner. The home must be the primary residence of the veteran and he/she must have received an honorable/general discharge.
The residence must be in or South Collin County service area
Applications are being accepted January 1 - May 1, 2013;Application deadline is May 1, 2013

Benton Blount

Benton Blount knows to trust his instincts. Repeatedly through his career, he’s moved forward by walking through an open door, even if making that step defied logic at the time. “I’ve had to stop wondering why all my dreams seem to keep coming true and moving me forward,” Blount says. “I’ve learned to trust that singing and writing songs is what I m supposed to do, because every time I focus on my music, new opportunities suddenly present themselves.”

“I know people look at me, with my tattoos and appearance, and they don’t think I look like a country singer,” he says. “When I sing, I have a gruffness to my voice that s different than most country singers too. But when I start to talk, you can hear that I’m as country as cornbread. And the songs, with their real-life stories and positive outlook on life, have more in common with country music than anything else. Country music is where I belong.”
